Here’s what I see:
A billboard for IN-N-OUT BURGER. Then I see Pizza Saint Francis. Then I see THE POPE’S PLAZA. And then I see pizzasf.org.
Of course if we wanted to, we could shut down the street in front of every religious-oriented building all over town.
If we wanted to…
While our neighborhood is all for street improvements and more open space, the Developer’s design would permanently close off critical access in and out of the North Beach/Telegraph Hill community. The development, which has been talked about in limited circles for years, has suddenly moved forward with no public participation in design or intent. Many in the community have only recently learned about the development and significant concern has been raised regarding traffic, design, safety, and maintenance. Despite this, the Developer, who doesn’t live in our neighborhood, has not made an effort to respond to these issues and has attempted to have the development approved through the back door with minimal community outreach. Only recently have public meetings been held and, despite large numbers at each event expressing their unhappiness with the Developer’s plan, the Developer has rejected the idea of modifying the proposal to allow maintaining Vallejo as a functioning street. As a result, SOS VALLEJO has been formed to Save Our Street and provide our neighborhood a voice to express its concern and work with the Developer to come up with a design that works for everyone.
